NEW RULES

                                                                     NEW RULES

When Pulte markets homes here, they stress the “amenities.”  What are amenities?  They include luxury homes and clubouses, two golf courses, tennis, pickleball, fitness center, gorgeous landscaping and views, restaurant (a questionable one), plus a safe environment.   Our HOA is very protective of these, also called “THE LIFESTYLE.”

Thanks to my good friend, Daryl Wolf, a keen observer, who said, “We all are amenities!”   There are over 60 clubs here where residents can learn a new skill, and/or lend their knowledge or experience (computers, ceramics, jewelery-making, gardening, crafting, wines, writing, cards and games--even play a ukulele!)  We are performers – actors, singers, directors, producers-- entertainers, readers, bowlers, billiard players. There are political clubs for Democrats, Republicans, and Hadassah.  A huge schedule of activities and events where residents can join in, have fun and meet new friends.  It attract buyers and keeps us all happy.

If no one was golfing, riding bikes, playing tennis, and the clubhouse meeting rooms were all empty…what’s the attraction?  The people!

From time to time, new rules seem to come into play by the board, management, and lifestyle, where instead of adding to ease of operation, we find these actions questionable.   Currently, clubs are being asked to provide their own liability insurance.  We already pay almost a million dollars for HOA liability; most insurance companies would do a simple rider which shouldn’t cost extra.    We doubt there’s ever been an incident nor will there be, where a crafter teaching a class, or an artist demonstrating techniques, has been a threat to the HOA.

In addition to the insurance issue, the general manager and lifestyle demand that clubs obtain an EIN number from the IRS.  The reason?  The Finance Committee, the attorney, the CPA recommended it, and the board went blithely along and voted for it.  Was there any discussion or wonder about what the club members thought of it?  This should have been seriously discussed with the clubs, at least the representative presidents who would vigorously oppose such added responsibility that is unneeded and ridiculous.   Wherever did the Finance Committee come up with this? The whole committee should be replaced.  Did you ever consider what would happen if all the clubs just quit—as they are threatening to do if this is not rescinded by the board immediately.

Don’t mess with seniors and new rules.  WE ARE THE AMENITIES!
